How does it work? Let's say that our server runs an English-language website, and the vast majority of the audience comes from the US, Canada, and countries in Western Europe. If we examine the logs of our website, we will likely discover that a large portion of the requests are coming not from legitimate users, but from rogue spiders, exploits, and site scrapers originating in clouds and data centers all over the world. At the best, all this traffic is useless – at worst, it can be harmful to the site. The built-in firewall cannot filter it out. But IPBlock can.

But that's not all. We can create a more restrictive set of blocks that includes every region other than the US, Canada, and Western Europe, all data centers except Google and Bing, and every known compromised computer in the world.

We then add this new set to our rule as an automatic failover in case our web traffic exceeds normal levels to an unusual degree. Now we have a server that will instantly block the majority of incoming packets in case of a DoS or DDoS attack.
